Back at CCAD!

I was delighted to be back at CCAD last week as the artist in residence! It just feels like home! I got straight stuck in and set up my work bay with lots of inspiration to kick start a new project!

The time there seemed to go so quickly! It must of been all the fun I was having! Whist there I did a talk to each of the year groups of the textiles and surface design course. Discussing business and life after CCAD. I hope it was inspiring and made things not look as scary after Uni life.

I also got the chance to make handmade paper. I haven't done this in years so it was great to recap on this.

Here is what you do:

Using newsprint tare it up into tiny pieces. If you want a big piece of paper! You need a big pile!

Then, pop the paper in the blender add 300ml of water. Keep adding a little more if necessary. Blend and keep shaking the paper so the blade doesn't get stuck.

When it's like a pulp. Using the wired mesh place the pulp ontop and spread out. Using another piece of wire mesh apply pressure and place ontop.

Squeeze all the excess water out. Keep applying pressure. The squeeze again in between a backing cloth. Then leave to bake in the baking cabinate for two hours. Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo of the finished result! But it was very exciting!

My time went so fast at CCAD. I'm hoping to start a new project and hopefully be back soon at print club asap!

Surface Design @ CCAD Hartlepool.

Last week I wasn't at CCAD as you all know I was at the Living North Fair in York. I was delighted to return and see the Textiles Exhibition in the college entrance, with some very recognisable work... my furnishing fabrics from my Final Major Project. Yay! It was great to see them back on show after so long. You can also see a selection of work from the Contemporary Textile Practice students. I can't take credit for the realistic fish hung from the necks on the mannequins. They are so realistic.

October Print Club!

YAY! Last week I managed to get myself back up to Hartlepool. It's been months and I have been thinking about going to print club since it opened again in September. With the nights starting to get very dark I knew last week was my perfect chance to go.

I am so surprised how few people go to print club. If I lived in Hartlepool I would be there every week. It is such a fantastic opportunity and has great resources at such an affordable price! Any how I did make the most of the space by having a whole print room to myself! :)

If you have been following my previous posts you may remember my drawing of a Chihuahua. This was my first task at print club- to get him and Mr Duck onto a screen!

I then took the chance to spread out and print some gold on black tote bags. I'm trying to keep producing stock so that I have a good amount available for xmas. It won't be long, I think its about 60ish days!

I am also experimenting with something new to sell..... some little squirrel squares which will come as a little craft pack. I will screen print the squirrel on the wool but the pack will include a needle and embroidery thread for some creative person to embellish further! I'm not sure what people will think of these so I've started with a limited few to trial.

What do you think?

Printing a Length on Paper.

I also printed a 3m length of my design in repeat on some brown paper at tonights print club. I thought I would try it on paper to see how my repeat works and learn from any mistakes made. I really enjoy producing lengths! Could easily do it all day! Here is some images of the repeat which is printed in metallic gold. I will get some better pictures next time.

Print Club @ CCAD!!

To all my lovely screen printers out there.... are you needing to screen print? Do you have a passion for screen printing but not the facilities?

No problem.... Cleveland College of Art and Design, Hartlepool have a fantastic print club which runs on a Monday evening 6-9pm! I've been myself and it was great! When I went it was extremely quiet so was able to take advantage of printing and getting screens exposed. I definitely recommend it to you if your eager to print but unable to do it at home. Just one quick visit and I had fresh screens at the ready and now I'm able to work from home! There is a small cost for things but it does make you feel alot stress free by having all the equipment around you :) For more info, email CCAD :)

Professional Practice.. DONE!

It was very hectic yesterday morning with everyone rushing about to get final bits done for their professional practice hand in. These are some photographs taken for my branding idea. I hand printed a paper brown bag with one of my bird images on. I think it looks quite sophisticated which was the idea I was going for.
