Mlkwood 2018 vs 2019!

So can you believe it, the gallery is a year old already!

Wow it has changed! We opened 28th October 2018.

I cannot actually how bare and minimal we was when we opened the doors.

We have gone from this.....

To this!

It is great to see how we have developed, the gallery is now full of colour and lots of handmade and creative items.

With Christmas coming up, its certainly got lots of choice for presents for loved ones!

The website is slowly coming along nicely. We are hoping to get this up and running asap so for those of you who aren't local, can purchase such gorgeous items online.

We can post anyway so if anyone did ever seen anything, just drop us a message.

Otherwise we are open:

Harrogate Gift and Fashion Fair!

On Friday it was such a lovely day, the sun was shining and I had tickets to go to the Harrogate Fashion and Gift fair! We are now quickly approaching Christmas, yes! Dare I say it, its less than 100 days before Christmas I believe! I was also checking the place out to see if this would be somewhere I would like to exhibit in the future.

There was definitely a huge variety of stalls. Some certainly caught my eye, but I was good not to spend!

Out of Africa Gifts was a strange stall for me, it brought back many memories from my trip to Africa. All its product is imported from mainly Kenya itself. You could see how they were handcrafted. It was beautiful and was lovely to see many things I have myself from my own visit. The work is beautiful.

I also met the lovely Jam Creations. I am very excited I bought some gorgeous items for my home from her stall. But I've had to save them for Christmas as they are now a treat from a friend. When I am allowed them! I will share them. Check out the business cards of some of my favourite stalls below...

Food stalls always catch my eye, especially if they sell anything involving chocolate.

Love Brownies, definitely passed the taste test! They deliver also in time for Christmas which is fab! I was tempted to keep going round and round and eating all their samples :)

It was also interesting to see the layouts of stalls. I have used crates myself in the past but they seem to be as popular as ever this year. I need to get my thinking cap on how I can dress my stall for my Christmas events this year!

Not long to go!

Exciting Times Ahead For Bridlington Businesses!

Do you live in Bridlington? Have you wondered what all the rubbish outside Tony's textiles has been about? All the hard work and building work that's been going on? Well now its time to find out!

Tony's Textiles of Bridlington has now departed and the Victoria Mill now has some new residents. Some very excited locals of Bridlington with developing businesses!

Tony's Textiles may have ended like this....

But it is now developing into something much more.....

The Priory boys started the ball rolling with an expansion of their shop of two years on Manor Street.  With a successful website online, and brands developing it is now the perfect time for the team to expand and more space was much needed. With The Victoria Mill on the shops doorstep is a great venture!

The building work has started, with some heavy sanding on the floor and walls, its all set to go go go, to get the place in shape for the lovely residents of Bridlington and beyond.

The Priory isn't the only local business getting involved. Have you heard of Crema Espresso? Award winning Oakley Wheelwright, owner of Crema Espresso is also moving in! If you need that early morning wake up call! Its going to be the perfect place to pop down. Why not have a coffee while you browse a new outfit?

So ladies? are you wondering what's in this for you? No need to worry... while your other half is browsing the menswear, you too can taste Oakley's blends, or why not check out local Jennifer Holdsworth's arrange of organic beauty products. Jennifer is also from Bridlington joining this new venture and bringing to you some new brands that are yet to be seen locally in Bridlington. So fear not ladies, maybe if your partner is treating himself, he might treat you too.

And... I am also excited to be having a small space inside the mill. Which will hopefully the corner space on the right hand side in the photo above. I'm very excited to have another place to share my work to the locals of Bridlington.

Well that's it for now. I will keep you up to date with more progress very soon! There still lots of hard work ahead but everyone is working so hard. I'm sure, fingers crossed it will look fantastic once it's ready!

For the Love of....

Last bank holiday Sunday I was in Whitby at the gorgeous Brunswick centre at the For the Love of Vintage and Handmade Fair. I have never had a stall in Whitby before but I'm glad I did as I had my lovely friend Lucy keep me company. It was also great to meet lots of people visiting the historic seaside town for the summer holidays.

I had to make sure I stayed firmly at my stall as I always get the urge to seek out something lovely to buy. There was such a fab selection of vintage finds to buy. Especially clothes!

It was my first "For the Love of..." fair but isn't my last I will be joining them again at Christmas in York in November! Watch this space for more info!

Its nearly Christmas......

Just a quick post for you all, can you believe its DECEMBER tomorrow! Another year of blogging is quickly coming to an end and another year begins... So with Christmas emerging I thought I best get my Squirrel Stockings on my Etsy Shop. They have been to my Christmas events with me so far. It is fair to say I love printing a lot more than sewing but it was a nice change.

The stockings come in a white, burgundy and red trim. At the moment they are only listed in white and red. I am hoping to list the burgundy ones tomorrow along with my Christmas cards :) I hope you like!

Preparation!

As you will know I have been busy preparing for  my Christmas fairs, starting with the Living North one this weekend at York Racecourse! This weekend I was finishing off sewing my Christmas stockings. I am very pleased with how they have turned out as I am not a keen sewer as I am a printer.

What do you think?

I have also been printing some fabrics for sale. These are a selection of small samples I will be selling which people can use for appliqué or possibly bunting? It features my jungle print on a small scale?

Dylan was also in for a treat this week with another costume. This week he wanted (without choice) to be a HOT DOG! haha I thought he would hate it but he was running about after his toys in it for a short time. I have also spent the last week printing my Robin tea towels. I was nervous printing them as I wanted them to be perfect but I am very pleased how they have turned out. These will be showcased with me this weekend :)

One of my dreams has to sell my own fabrics. Even though I would love to do this on a larger scale I just don't have all the facilities yet, but I am nearly there. Here I have some small cotton fabric pieces of my exotic jungle design and my foxglove design. The fabric sizes do vary slightly and these will also be for sale at the weekend.

Finally, my Christmas greetings cards arrived yay! I was also pleased with these. This time I produced a multidirectional repeat design for a change using my original holly illustration. I also managed to complete all my squirrel kits! Yay! So that was another thing crossed off my list :)

So what do you think?

You can find me this weekend at York Racecourse 15th-17th November!

#TALKT

Hello,

I thought I would share with you today #TALKT on twitter which stands for 'Take A Look Tuesday"

It is such a great idea for artists, designers and creatives to share their work on twitter and communicate.

Threw various networking sites I have met some lovely new people along the way. I thought I would introduce a few to you today!

Firstly, I introduce you to Little Pip Designs. Little Pip creates beautiful handmade textiles for home and accessories. One particular favourite of mine is her popular appliqué Robin, he is just too cute! I love following their work.
Please check out their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/littlepipdesigns and their shop here:

Next I would like to introduce you to Samantha Grig. I first came across Samantha's work via twitter and we have been chatting ever since. We most recently both met up at a craft fair which was lovely to meet Samantha and her work in person. Samantha produces beautiful knitted accessories all made out of 100% British wool! I certainly have my eyes on a couple of her hats! Especially as we are getting into winter! It's freezing!
You can find Samantha Grigg on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/samanthasTextiles
Also her Etsy shop here: http://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/SamanthaGrig

Next up is Ballistic Owl by my friend Tracy Bidwell from Cleveland College of Art and Design. I love following Tracy's work since University. Like me Tracy has chosen to continue her love for screen printing and embroidery by developing her own business. We will both be reunited next Tuesday at CCAD for the freshers event as we both have a little stall :)

I would also like to introduce you to the work of Maggie Goodwin. I firstly found Maggie and her work via Twitter. As another Yorkshire artist we both regularly interact in #Northeasthour and #Yorkshirehour. Maggie draws a beautiful selection of wildlife, flowers and landscapes. She is also a fellow printer using methods such as lino cutting.

You can find Maggie's Etsy shop here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/printsbymaggieg

Onto... Funky Wombat Textiles! I also came across Tamara and her company via twitter. When I first started chatting to Tamara (owner) I was fascinated how we nearly crossed paths in the past by both completing an internship in Glasgow with company Timorous Beasties. We just missed each other by weeks! I absolutely love Funky Wombats work. I can see how in both our styles how our internship has inspired and motivated us. We now follow each other on various networking sites and I love following their progress! You can find their website here: http://funkywombattextiles.com

Finally, we have the lovely Hannah Byatt. Hannah is a keen blogger and designer. Again we met threw twitter and both are now also in communication with Tamara of Funky Wombat Textiles. Hannah is fantastic at blogging, if you ever need some inspirational reading she has it! She is also great at finding inspirational quotes! You can find her blog here: http://hannahbyatt.blogspot.co.uk

Well there we have a few introductions. I could go on forever as I have met so many interesting and creative people. So please join in with #TALKT on twitter on a Tuesday :)

From Yorkshire with Love!

This weekend I spent it at the lovely heart of Yorkshire (well I'd say it is) at the city of York. It is such a beautiful city and the historic Merchant Hall itself was beautiful alone without any of our stalls in there.

When I had got all set up I had a brief little walk around the building before doors opened. It was another one of our sunny summer days. I was slightly worried we might get some thunder showers.

The atmosphere in the building was completely different to the last two events I have recently done. The event had a more vintage feel with live singers in the afternoon to serenade us.

My little ladder with my totes on :)

Here we have my little stall. I have got into a little routine with my stall and organising where everything goes. I hope this is a good thing. I am planning to change it all around for my Christmas events. (Soon to be announced) Mr Duck seemed to be catching everyones eyes on Sunday. He certainly was Mr Popular.

What I also love about doing these events is meeting other stall holders and the lovely public. Two people I got to have a natter with on the day is a new company called "Clean Slate" who was established this year in March. I fell in love with their hand crafted heart cake stand. I am sure I will have to use it on my stall to display something at one event. It is simply gorgeous.

Another lovely face to see was Teacup Tweed. I first was introduced to the lovely Lizzie last Christmas as the Designers Marketplace and have followed her progress since. Teacup Tweed produce gorgeous furnishings for the home made in North Yorkshire but with a Scottish Heart.
You can find their Etsy shop here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/TeacupTweed

From Yorkshire with Love was such a great event. I definitely had a fantastic time. For their future events you can check out their Website here: http://madelocallywithlove.co.uk/from-yorkshire-with-love-craft-fair/

They took some lovely photo's of the event which can be viewed here by Todd and Moore:

I would just like to say a big well done to the From Yorkshire with Love Team!
