Exhibition @ The Alex May Gallery, September!

This month I have had the exciting opportunity to exhibit my work at The Alex May Gallery in Bridlington. Working in the Gallery has been a great experience. It has been inspiring to share and discuss my own work with the other artists involved and meeting visitors with a love of art.

At the Gallery there is a selection of 6 artists including myself showing. Even though there is only a few of us, there is a great variety of work being exhibited which include textiles, painting, jewellery making, mix media art, and small sculptural art.

If you follow me on my facebook and twitter you may have seen me chatting about getting some prints done. These are now ready and having their debut for sale in The Alex May Gallery. Below is a little peak of these. The Alex May Gallery is based in the Historic Old Town of Bridlington. It is such beautiful location.

You can see a selection of my work and other artists in the window display. We have tried to capture a dark and mysterious theme with two of my dark toned printed lengths and one of Kate Jordan's beautiful paintings.

We have the stunning work of two local artists. Leanne Broadbent is a mixed media artist who produces quirky narrative canvas' and prints based on children's literature.
Kate Jordan is also another fine artist who produces both figurative and expressive paintings. Her influences are books, fairy tales and her imagination.

We also have photographer Keith Bruce a local landscape photographer, and Maybelle Rose who produces tiny little paintings inside nutshells.

Here are three of my furnishing lengths I am exhibiting from my final collection from University last year. I still love them and it's great to get some feedback from people who've never seen them before.

The Gallery will be Open next weekend also 11am-4pm. If your in Bridlington please pop by and say Hello!
We are also hoping to be open in October. I will keep you informed of these dates as they come.

A Trip to Sledmere House.

Last week I found out a friend of mine was exhibiting her work at Sledmere at The Triton Gallery. I first met my friend Lauren Ward at Yorkshire Coast College during our foundation year. When moving to Hartlepool I lost a bit of contact with some of my lovely friends from Bridlington so it was great to catch up and see how her work has developed.

With summer coming to an end I thought it was best to make use of what sunshine we get and also went to visit Sledmere House itself and its enchanting Walled Gardens. It was quite windy but that didn't stop the lovely photo's....

I love these beautiful tiles in the Turkish Bathroom. The room is stunning!

Sledmere is also in the public eye not only for its gorgeous stately home but as a village. David Hockney has famously painted the village in his fantastic collection of Yorkshire landscapes.

If your in Yorkshire I would definitely recommend visiting this quite little Yorkshire Village.

My Scarf is Finished!

Well, I definitely find screen printing alot easier than knitting but I have enjoyed knitting my first scarf and for such a great cause. It was a little over the 45 inches but I thought I would use up the last of my ball. I am impressed with how neat my first scarf is and got great feedback from the other knitters. Overall with everyones contribution we managed to knit 90 scarves to send to the soldiers in Afghanistan. Well done everyone!

I do have to admit though I missed it when I had finished it! So, I've now started this purple/pink one below. This one is only 40 stitches wide so I hope now I've had some practice I will get it finished abit quicker.

Incase You Missed It....

Incase you don't have Facebook, here are some of my favourite images from my shoot at Burton Agnes  Hall last weekend. We have been treated to such gorgeous weather. I think many of us thought summer was gone with the rain last week. I thought I'd make the most of it and take some new pictures of my totes.

I hope you like them, Lauren :)
