New drawings on the go!

I have been super busy over the last month or so drawing lots of new designs. I have now got quite a few of these onto a silk screen so I can next share with you how they will develop.

It does feel strange to stop the drawing stage as I still have the drawing bug but now its time to get messy and get printing! 

A New Commission... Two little dogs...

My lovely friend Jade asked me to draw her two dogs, Reg and Jeff. I was very excited/nervous as I know these dogs well and really wanted to do a good job. Especially when she said she wanted them to be a gift for her mums birthday. So as of Monday I had these finished. I do love drawing animals as you know but I do tend to stick to drawing birds. I was a bit uncertain how their hair would come along but I had a bit of practice earlier by drawing Dylan. So here we go....

I started with the face as I feel this is the most important part. I didn't want to leave this till last as I think the eyes are what makes it look like the animal/person. I was very happy once I had completed this stage as I definitely could see a likeness. 

Here is a little picture of me at work :) just so you can put a face behind all this chattering.

So here we are, the finished results. I used pen on tracing paper for these drawings backed on card and wrapped for presenting. I do love drawing and it was nice to get some time this summer to relax. I am now excited to start more development on my studio. My next stage is some designing and to build a larger light box to expose some bigger screens. Then its the water situation. I am still hoping to build my screen collection too.

My Drawing of Dylan!

This is Dylan on the first day we got him! I can't believe how small he was compared to now! But he is still ever so cute! (Even if I say so). Recently my friend Abbie painted this picture for me for my birthday which I absolutely LOVE! I did however start a drawing of Dylan myself, which I am sharing with you today! 

Dylan would never sit still for a portrait so I am drawing straight from the picture. I always find animals with dark fur hard to draw, not sure why. 

I have discovered now from drawing I do have a particular style. Again, this is a drawing on tracing paper with a black biro pen. I love this method as I love the tones it creates (I have said this before). One thing I would change about this drawing is his eyes. I think I have done them too bold. Eyes are a tricky thing to draw. But I think either way he still looks like my Dylan :)

Above, is my finished drawing. I may add more depth to it at a later date and make the tones darker but I have decided to 'finish' this for now. I find sometimes its always good to have a break from a drawing, you don't want to over work it and spoil it.

I've really got the drawing bug at the moment and I'm eager to draw more. So here we go!

Recent Drawings Update!

I love to draw, I think it is very relaxing. Especially with these cold winter nights, drawing snuggled in a blanket with a hot chocolate is a must! So this is what I have been drawing... 

The drawing above is a re-work from a linear drawing I have done on a past work sheet. I came across it going through my portfolio and wanted to add more detail with some shading. I intend to develop this drawing further by taking it into a repeat pattern. So just watch this space for further development.

This second drawing is to partner with another drawing of a Chihuahua I produced. This little one is called Phoebe and is the daughter of the little dog I drew before called Coco. They are for a close friend, and I love these dogs to bits! They are super cute! I hope she likes it. 

Finally, this little mouse. I have chosen to use him for a current project which I have been asked to be involved with. (More news later) The original drawing above, is in colour so yesterday I re-drew Mr Mouse so I just had him in black and white. I also altered his feet as I felt there where rather large in the original.

I hope to update you with where Mr Mouse goes on his adventure very soon.

Drawings From the Last Few Weeks!

Over the last few weeks I have picked my pen back up and been back drawing! One of my favourite things to draw is animals. If you follow my blog you will see I especially have a love of drawing birds... this is also where I began this time... with Mr Duck.

I really enjoy drawing on tracing paper, especially with biro. I feel you can get softer lines and marks than drawing on paper. With my duck drawing I also wanted to experiment with colour but not to ruin the original I used pro-markers on cartridge paper and layered the tracing paper on top. I think this worked quite well, I only have a limited collection of pro-markers so had to make use of the colours I had available. 

From producing Mr Duck I was eager to draw something else. When going through some of my old drawing sheets I came across a simple line drawing of Jack (see below). I am really happy how he turned out. Jack is a close friend of mines dog and I really miss them both, he has such a fun character!

Having posted the image of Jack on my Facebook page I had abit of interest from a couple of people saying I could draw their dogs. One dog who I am familiar with is Coco the Chihuahua. She caught my eye and her long hair really appealed to me to get drawing... so here she is below. 

I haven't decided what I want to use the recent illustrations with but I will keep you posted!

Its Getting Late!

For some reason, even though I have been having long days I manage to keep going when I get home. Thats why I am blogging so late at night! Here, is a pen drawing used to test experimental colour for a painted out design. I love working with a biro- it is the most simplest item but I love the detail I can achieve with it!
