Robert E Fuller Exhibition @ Burton Agnes Hall.

Today I went to visit Burton Agnes Hall and its latest exhibition, the work of local artist Robert E Fuller. I have never seen his work before but knew his interests were similar to mine. Well, it was truly inspiring. His work is so details. I was fascinated by how he had captured each piece of wildlife.

This little hedgehog was my favourite, he certainly puts my little drawings to shame. Isn't he adorable!

He has a fab selection of his work for sale including originals. His work fills the long gallery at the top of the hall. You certainly miss whats around you when your busy looking at these pieces. They are amazing!

Robert also has his own gallery, located in Thixendale near Malton and also organises fantastic trips where you can join him and his passion for wildlife abroad. You can certainly see his love for animals by how he talks about them on his blog:

His work is available to view at the Hall until the 5th of October, get yourselves there!

Feeling inspired, I went to visit the local pond to see if I could capture some nature to draw myself. I was greeted by these ginormous geese!

Did you miss it? You missed out!! The CCAD degree show is a yearly spectacular I recommend any creative to go see! It is amazing! Even if I may be abit biased as I do love the place! I was there the opening night! It was very inspiring and lovely to see some familiar faces!

The second year studio was also open along with the corridors filled with gorgeous surface design!

Here is soon to be graduate from BA Textiles... Alex Goldsborough with her work who will be attending New Designers this year! Congratulations! Her work has also been all the way to Surtex in New York!  Her prints featuring architecture from around the world were bold and striking. Great use of print and colour!

I really want to go back!!

I didn't get as many pictures as I hoped but it was fantastic! CCAD will next be exhibiting at New Designers! Best of luck to all the New Graduates and what life holds ahead for you all!

Now I need to get back designing/printing :)

New Designs: New Screens to Play with!

Hi all. I am still back at CCAD at the moment, I love spending my spare evenings trying to get some of my work done which is fantastic. The new print areas, dye lab and mixing studio are all fantastic. I have also thoroughly enjoyed being in some of the student work shops. In the future I would love to run my own screen printing work shops so it is great to see Vicky in action! (The pro) :)

For this weeks samples it has all been about my Foxglove design and Mr Robin. I have a few more little designs but these are yet to be tested. I am so happy with the outcome of these two screens. I always get anxious making my screens so when I get to see the first printed result it makes me feel fantastic! I get so excited!

The other high light of my week was producing a jelly! As this is one of my favourite food! Your never too old for some wobbly jelly I say!

What do you think?

My Iphone 4/4s Cases are on my Etsy Shop!

The other day I was walking Dylan near the fields and I noticed they had now cut the corn and made it into hay bales. It was such a beautiful evening I thought I would have a little wonder into the field with my phone cases and take some pretty pictures of them. There is four different designs...

Mr Duck

Kingfisher & Frog

Mr Squirrel

Mr Owl

I thought it was about time I updated my Etsy shop and gave them hopefully a new home. It certainly still felt like summer when I was out in the fields, the sun was setting but still lovely and warm.

My own Mr Duck iphone case has certainly protected my phone after a few accidental falls!

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas...

Well, time seems to be moving extremely fast, it won't be long and it will be the Living North Fair in York. I was thinking about festive products and thought I would have a little fun with some of my favourite drawings. Here is Mr Owl in his little santa hat, I have given Mr Duck one too and I just couldn't stop laughing. He also suited it!

I also had a go at drawing something traditionally Christmas- some Holly. I may add this to some of my designs or I might create a repeat design with it. I can't quite decide :) Then we have my little Robin which you have seen before. He has also tried a Santa hat on but he wasn't keen on it. I do wonder ... how many of you reading this post have started your Christmas shopping?

I have also started/finished this butterfly drawing. I suddenly got the drawing bug and fancied using some colour for a change. I didn't want you all thinking I could only draw with one media. It was fun using colour for a change and I am really please with their outcome! Not quite sure though what I'm going to create with them yet.

A New Commission... Two little dogs...

My lovely friend Jade asked me to draw her two dogs, Reg and Jeff. I was very excited/nervous as I know these dogs well and really wanted to do a good job. Especially when she said she wanted them to be a gift for her mums birthday. So as of Monday I had these finished. I do love drawing animals as you know but I do tend to stick to drawing birds. I was a bit uncertain how their hair would come along but I had a bit of practice earlier by drawing Dylan. So here we go....

I started with the face as I feel this is the most important part. I didn't want to leave this till last as I think the eyes are what makes it look like the animal/person. I was very happy once I had completed this stage as I definitely could see a likeness.

Here is a little picture of me at work :) just so you can put a face behind all this chattering.

So here we are, the finished results. I used pen on tracing paper for these drawings backed on card and wrapped for presenting. I do love drawing and it was nice to get some time this summer to relax. I am now excited to start more development on my studio. My next stage is some designing and to build a larger light box to expose some bigger screens. Then its the water situation. I am still hoping to build my screen collection too.

Anyway thats enough rambling for one post. Please feel free to let me know what you think?
Thanks, Lauren :)

Working on New Products: iPhone Cases

Recently I needed a new phone case. It came to mind, why not get my own design on it? So, thats just what I did. Phone cases are very popular at the minute with certain phone manufacturers dominating the market. I think you know the ones....

These are the current designs I am hoping to start with, and I then hope to develop my recent drawings. I have so many ideas running around in my head but not enough time at the moment to do everything.

Here is a photo of one of my prototypes. This one doesn't have my name branding on so is just for myself for now. I am hoping to be getting my others back this week so will keep you informed.

What do you think of him? :)

A Little Drawing Week.

I have been very eager to do some drawing this week. After finishing the drawing of Dylan I think it gave me the 'drawing bug'... I just didn't want to put my pen down!

I love drawing birds and animals along with foliage. I am eager to create some new designs for this year. I already have my first one with the foxglove design (seen in an earlier post) I just need to get my print table sorted so I can do repeat prints.

I think my next step is to do more drawing and get designing!
Hope you like these ones so far!

New Design: Foxgloves & Butterflies.

I did this drawing last year (seems ages ago) but have always had an idea in mind what I wanted the design to look like. So I thought it was about time I got cracking with it. It felt like being back at uni producing a repeat pattern. It was great! With design I have always loved how with a single image you can produce a beautiful repeat pattern.
After deciding on a layout which, in this case I chose a block repeat. I then drew out the design onto paper ready to produce a paint out.

I had a look at the dyes I had available. I am aware I need to broaden my colours but to me this happens during the printing process. The dye I chose was a bottle green with some aubergine. I love/hate how messy using dyes is. Green fingers were a definite!

Next... was the drawing part. Adding all the detail to the foxgloves. Each flower took just over an hour to add its detail. It was very time consuming but I loved every minute of it. I also found it very theraputic.

After the foxglove detail I just had the butterflies to finish. In this case I chose a gold pen to add the detail. With the majority of the piece being quite dark I think the gold is what it needed. They also look lovely when the light catches them.

Here we are.. the finish paint out of my new design. The next step is producing a cut-threw and starting the Koda Trace. More details to follow!
