Back at CCAD!

I was delighted to be back at CCAD last week as the artist in residence! It just feels like home! I got straight stuck in and set up my work bay with lots of inspiration to kick start a new project!

The time there seemed to go so quickly! It must of been all the fun I was having! Whist there I did a talk to each of the year groups of the textiles and surface design course. Discussing business and life after CCAD. I hope it was inspiring and made things not look as scary after Uni life.

I also got the chance to make handmade paper. I haven't done this in years so it was great to recap on this.

Here is what you do:

Using newsprint tare it up into tiny pieces. If you want a big piece of paper! You need a big pile!

Then, pop the paper in the blender add 300ml of water. Keep adding a little more if necessary. Blend and keep shaking the paper so the blade doesn't get stuck.

When it's like a pulp. Using the wired mesh place the pulp ontop and spread out. Using another piece of wire mesh apply pressure and place ontop.

Squeeze all the excess water out. Keep applying pressure. The squeeze again in between a backing cloth. Then leave to bake in the baking cabinate for two hours. Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo of the finished result! But it was very exciting!

My time went so fast at CCAD. I'm hoping to start a new project and hopefully be back soon at print club asap!

More Printing!

It has been a busier week at CCAD. Students are busy busy busy preparing for their hand in, in a few weeks time. I do remember that feeling well! In my spare time on an evening I have been back printing again. This week I did a sample of my rabbit which I drew a while back. He has printed quite well but I think my robin is my new favourite.

I also got the chance to get printing with my Foxglove design. This was alot of fun and very exciting. I have printed some pieces of fabrics to sell at the Living North Fair in a few weeks time. So far the colours I have printed is a bordeaux and a natural. I'm hoping to get some more printed next week :)

This week Dylan also got his first Christmas jumper! I'm yet to get him the ones I've made as I have a couple of finishing touches to add. But being away up North I have missed a few Knitting Group meetings. I hope they will forgive me. I think he is quite a fan of this one though :)

Hi all!
Again, I've had another busy week, I am trying to keep up and on track of my tasks! Here I have to share with you one of my new tote bag designs. It's Dylan! I couldn't resist. I do hope you all like him. We all know what my friends and family will be getting for Christmas. Dylan himself doesn't seen to even realise its him. :)

I have been back at CCAD again this week. I thought I would have a go at doing some printing in my spare time on an evening. I was delighted to find an old backing cloth from when I produced my final samples. Can you see my tree, mirror and clocks? There is also the leaves design visible which was the design of my close friend Lindsay.

I love mixing new pigments too, yum! :)

Here are some more of my samples. I now have a couple of Mr Penguin and Mr Duck tote bags, they are just waiting to be photographed. My leopard design is also soon to be on a tote, I might experiment with colour further for this one as there is lots of imagery to play with.

Last week, I also got a new phone and its yellow! It has taken some getting used to and I have missed my Mr Duck phone case dearly. So much so, I have still been using my old phone as a camera. He hopefully will be going to a new home soon.

Back up North to CCAD! Yay!

This week I am delighted to share with you I have been back up north to Cleveland College of Art, yay! I do recognise a few familiar faces around the college which is nice. The college itself just seems to be getting better and better! This week we have been finishing off decorating the before very quiet corridor near the exposure room. We now have the 'doodle board', 'meet the team', 'textiles trip's and 'what's going on this week' boards! All filled with a selection of colourful photo frames and now getting decorated by peoples fun photo's :)

This week we have also decorated the walls with some banners discussing the courses available in the textiles department. I had a little shock to see my face on one of them. It seemed like only yesterday I was having that photo taken, but if you know me personally.. the length of my hair will tell you it was three years ago!

I am also so excited about their new print room facilities. They are amazing! I will share some pictures with you soon. In the meantime, here are the screens I've just exposed and have been playing with last weekend! Exciting!

Cleveland College of Art and Design & East Riding College.

When I first graduated from university I was asked to go into the East Riding College in Bridlington to discuss uni life and surface pattern with their students. I was delighted to be asked again this month to discuss again surface pattern but now also running your own business and developing social networking.

Here I am two years ago discussing my work. Unfortunately I had so much to talk about this time I completely forgot to get any photographs!

I also had a trip back to Cleveland College of Art and Design where I had a stall at their fresher's event. It really does make me want to go back there and get going on the course again! I miss it so much!
It was lovely to see some familiar faces and meet some lovely new starters! They have lots of fun ahead!
