Screen Printing for Bespoke Brooch Bouquets by Lydia Rose

I was delighted when Lydia asked me to produce a screen printed sign for her company, to display at her wedding fayres and events. I had a thought about what designs I had available and then compared them to what Lydia had in mind. I then remembered my mirror silhouette. It was perfect. I then chose to place the companies name in the centre with my baroque motif around the edge. If you have followed my work for a while you may have seen this design on the repeat of one of my furnishing fabrics I produced whilst at uni.

Lydia's bouquets are beautiful. I knew this design would work well with the golds and metallic colours of her brooches. However I didn't want to just print the design on to plain white fabric. So I sourced this lovely fabric with a light floral motif across it. With the base fabric already having a faint design on it I wasn't sure how the pigment would take to it, but it worked really well creating alternative tones.

I love printing with gold pigments. This is the final piece I chose. I did a few samples for Lydia to have a look at and use if she wished. I haven't exposed a screen from home for a while so that was a bit difficult but in the end it worked well. I am glad Lydia likes her fabric and hope to see it in use soon. :)

A Little Drawing Week.

I have been very eager to do some drawing this week. After finishing the drawing of Dylan I think it gave me the 'drawing bug'... I just didn't want to put my pen down!

I love drawing birds and animals along with foliage. I am eager to create some new designs for this year. I already have my first one with the foxglove design (seen in an earlier post) I just need to get my print table sorted so I can do repeat prints.

I think my next step is to do more drawing and get designing!
Hope you like these ones so far!

A shoot with Bespoke Brooches by Lydia Rose.

A few weeks a go I took part in my close friend Lydia's photo shoot for her new and growing company, Bespoke Brooch Bouquets by Lydia Rose.
I was very nervous as I aren't a model and I was wearing Lydia's OWN dress from her special day! Eeek!
Lydia's collection of bouquets is growing, with gold, silver, black and a fun multicoloured one! Which one is your favourite? I really can't choose....

The photo shoot took part in Lydia's beautiful garden and on the beach. It was extremely chilly but the sun was out.

Here I am with the silver bouquet. Aren't they just beautiful! They are heavy but worth it for their beauty! I'll never need to get married now I have a picture of me pretending :)

The light captured this brooch perfectly. This photo is completely natural. When the photo was took this is how the sun hit the brooch. We was all amazed!

My friend Jade who also got married last year modelled in her wedding dress. Her velvet shoes were simply gorgeous... and against the sand with the black bouquet made such a lovely picture!

Brid Bay Knitters Celebrating Turning One!

Well, we've made it to one year old! Brid Bay Knitters joined last night for a celebratory tea and some yummy cake. It was a lovely evening and to see the group grow from just three/four of us to nearly a dozen of us is fantastic.

I had been looking forward to my tea all day and was very excited to see these fabulous cakes when I arrived. This one above looked so realistic and almost too beautiful to eat. I am so glad we did though as it was chocolate inside and so yummy! (I'm also glad I took an extra portion home!)

We also had another cake too! Yes! Two cakes. I loves the icing on this one. It reminded me of making spaghetti with playdoh as a child.

It was a lovely evening full of chit chat and laughs. I am looking forward to learning more techniques this year and hopefully become more advanced than a beginner.

If you live local to Bridlington your more than welcome to join. You don't have to be great at knitting there is plenty of people to teach you.
The next session is on the 24th April 6pm-8.30pm at Seabirds in Bridlington.

New Stockist: Laura Loves Boutique, Birmingham.

I am excited to announce a lovely new stockist for my work...
Laura Loves Boutique.

Me and Laura first came across each other via Instagram. Laura Loves Boutique is based in Mr Birds Emporium in The Custard Factory, Birmingham. Dedicated to creating affordable clothing and accessories from recycled materials, Laura's work is stunning and unique. Along with Laura Loves work she also showcases up and coming designers/artists in her store and online.

I do still feel quite new to having my own business but having stockists is a great way to learn about your items and which seem to be the most popular. I was delighted when Laura Loves asked to stock my greetings cards and totes. I am excited to be on board!

My work is also available to buy from her website. I think her website layout works perfectly with the images of my work. It is super cute!
I look forward to following Laura's progress with her work online and in-store.

My Drawing of Dylan!

This is Dylan on the first day we got him! I can't believe how small he was compared to now! But he is still ever so cute! (Even if I say so). Recently my friend Abbie painted this picture for me for my birthday which I absolutely LOVE! I did however start a drawing of Dylan myself, which I am sharing with you today!

Dylan would never sit still for a portrait so I am drawing straight from the picture. I always find animals with dark fur hard to draw, not sure why.

I have discovered now from drawing I do have a particular style. Again, this is a drawing on tracing paper with a black biro pen. I love this method as I love the tones it creates (I have said this before). One thing I would change about this drawing is his eyes. I think I have done them too bold. Eyes are a tricky thing to draw. But I think either way he still looks like my Dylan :)

Above, is my finished drawing. I may add more depth to it at a later date and make the tones darker but I have decided to 'finish' this for now. I find sometimes its always good to have a break from a drawing, you don't want to over work it and spoil it.

I've really got the drawing bug at the moment and I'm eager to draw more. So here we go!

Birthday Card Designs.

As you know its recently been my birthday so I thought I would share with you some of the cards I received.

The card above is a design you are seeing everywhere at the moment with varying messages. I think this one is particularly funny.

The card above and the one below I love for different reasons. I do really like both of the designs content. The illustration of the girl is really cute and the added detail of the flower in her hair being 3D makes is stand out. I do wish I could do illustrated people.

The card below is by Paperchase and is a laser cut design. I really like the detail. I couldn't imagine doing this by hand it would take forever. It reminds me of the work of Rob Ryan.

The card below I LOVE! For obvious reasons... it includes super cute french bull dogs! I think Dylan would get very jealous of these! Who knows, maybe he can be on a card next year?

This card I received from the lovely Bev of Uniko studio. All her cards are hand made and designed by  herself. Check out the Uniko Studio website here: http://unikostudio.blogspot.co.uk

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday! :)
