Christmas Designers Marketplace 2012!

Last Saturday was the Annual Christmas Designers Marketplace in Middlesbrough. It was my very first craft stall so I was very nervous and excited! I wasn't sure what to expect. The day seemed to fly by. Middlesbrough Town Hall was a beautiful venue, it was full of festive joy with Christmas music and films on the big screen. Here are a few pictures from the day and my stall.

I bought some props from an old fruit and veg shop. I wanted to create a 'farmers market' stall appearance as I felt it would fit in with my imagery and products. I think this has worked quite successful.

I took these snaps from my stall, although they don't do the place justice! The day had a fab range of 60 stalls with a fab range of gifts. I had to stop myself looking as I wanted to buy everything!

It was also great to see some friendly faces. Here's my friend Bev from Uniko Studio having her debut also at the Designers Marketplace. Her stamps are fantastic and she had a great try before you buy on them so I was eager to have a go.

It was a great day with more sales than I expected. Thank you to everyone who came along and visited. I hope to see you all there next year!

The Dickensian Festival, Bridlington Old Town!

This Sunday the 9th December 2012 was Bridlington's Old Town's annual Dickensian Festival.
The weather behaved itself, although it was rather chilly but we had mulled wine and candy canes to keep us warm and sweet :)

I was very excited to see so many people and families out celebrating the town seasonal event. Our Exhibition at the Alex May Gallery is titled 'Seasons Greetings and will run until the end of January 2013.

New work by me is my two framed prints which are ready and for sale! I have sold one so these are the last two. I am hoping to make some more of these in the future if they become successful. Another item having its debut is my little squirrel packs where you get everything you need to make your own little squirrel.

Thank you to everyone who came along. Enjoy your Christmas and best wishes for the New Year!

Little Dylan!

I am happy to introduce you to a new little man in my life. His name is Dylan, the french bull dog. He will be only 10 weeks old tomorrow!
I have never had a dog before, only a hamster. We still have Boo our nearly two year old hamster but they haven't been introduced yet. I am hoping to make Dylan his own blog so just keep an eye out for that one! Here are some pictures from his first week with us :)

p.s Can't wait to get drawing him!

Screen Printing with the Children at Bay Primary.

If you follow my facebook page you will have seen me say I was going into a local primary school to show my work and do a screen printing demonstration. I was quite nervous about the children understanding the method. But they was very inquisitive and curious asking lots of questions which was great!

I was then asked to go in the following week to help them do their own screen printing. I was very surprised to see a primary school with their own screen printing equipment, I thought it was impressive!

During the week the children had prepared their own stencil to screen print, based on looking at the work of William Morris. We then worked in groups of four using red pigment and began the printing on fabric.

Some of the results were fantastic! It was great fun, we got rather messy too. Although I think I came off worse than the children :)
It was great to teach the children and a learning curve for me too.

Here are some of the results! They are going to continue in class and add more colours to the print!
How exciting!

CCAD Fashion Christmas Fair!

This week I was contacted by one of the Fashion Enterprise Students at CCAD about their Christmas Fair.
They are showcasing their work at Graduate fashion week in London, this upcoming June - however in order to do this they need to raise roughly £10,000.
To start their fundraising they are holding a Christmas fair at Springs leisure centre, Hartlepool, on 7th of December. There we will be a fab range of stalls selling a range of handmade products, as well as holding a raffle etc.
The fair is 12-7pm and is such a great reason to go!
To request a stall, check out the details on the poster! Get yourselves there!

Recent Drawings Update!

I love to draw, I think it is very relaxing. Especially with these cold winter nights, drawing snuggled in a blanket with a hot chocolate is a must! So this is what I have been drawing...

The drawing above is a re-work from a linear drawing I have done on a past work sheet. I came across it going through my portfolio and wanted to add more detail with some shading. I intend to develop this drawing further by taking it into a repeat pattern. So just watch this space for further development.

This second drawing is to partner with another drawing of a Chihuahua I produced. This little one is called Phoebe and is the daughter of the little dog I drew before called Coco. They are for a close friend, and I love these dogs to bits! They are super cute! I hope she likes it.

Finally, this little mouse. I have chosen to use him for a current project which I have been asked to be involved with. (More news later) The original drawing above, is in colour so yesterday I re-drew Mr Mouse so I just had him in black and white. I also altered his feet as I felt there where rather large in the original.
I hope to update you with where Mr Mouse goes on his adventure very soon.

Firstly I have been featured on the FE Week website above and then also featured on the CCAD Website. It was lovely and has made me feel very proud!

I would like to thank CCAD for interviewing me about my work!

'Dirty Pretty Things' Exhibition At The Spa, Bridlington

'Dirty Pretty Things' is a fantastic art exhibition by two university friends! (Who are also both from Yorkshire) The work of Leanne Broadbent and Rhea Sherriff-Hammond is fresh and very enchanting. I found myself and my imagination getting lost within the work and my childlike character coming out!

Both Mix media artists, I love the similarities and contrasts in their styles of work. It is easy to see why these two artists choose to exhibit together as their work definitely engages and captures your imagination!

As a textiles and surface designer myself I love how both artists combine fabrics within their work. The use of layering of other media's such as oils, pen and ink gives it an added texture which appeals to me. I found myself studying the detail of the textures very closely. Amazing!

The Exhibition is on till the 23rd November, and what's even better its FREE! So an even better reason to go enjoy some art! Go have a look! It's stunning!

I am very excited to announce this year I will be having my debut as Lauren Cherice Designs! I haven't done any craft events as a solo designer so I am very nervous but excited! Including myself, there will be a total of 60 stalls from talented designers/ artists from around the region! So when is it.... Get the 15th December in your Diary, at Middlesbrough Town Hall!

It would be great if some of my North East friends could make it!

November! November! November!

Wow! I know I seem to say this at the beginning of every month I think, but seriously, where has the past year gone. First week of November and then Bonfire night on Monday! I've been thinking about how I have spent the last year. It doesn't feel like I've done much but when I create a little list in my mind I actually have.

I'm feeling quite positive in what I want to achieve! I am very grateful for all the opportunities that have come across this year so far and hope for many more to come my way!

I hope everyone is having exciting news! The creative world Is definitely a hard one! But hard work I think will always result in an achievement!

Fundraising for Marie Curie Cancer Care!

With a very busy Bridlington for the Scooter Weekend! We knew the town's bars and pubs would be full of people for the scooter rally! So it was a great chance for us to get out our buckets and go collecting for Marie Curie Cancer Care!

"Marie Curie Nurses are so important in our communities, they put caring back into nursing, looking after both patients and families in their own homes. A £20 donation pays for one hour of care."

We had rain, wind and snow but that didn't stop us! Here is some of our group, Abbie and Sian! I have never done any collecting for charity before but was pleased to see how generous people are! And it is for such a great cause!

Overall, I am pleased to announce we raised £225!
I would just like to say a big thanks to everyone who donated!

The Priory Menswear & Bridlington's Scooter Rally!

You may have seen my post earlier in the year when I mentioned a new menswear shop opening in Bridlington. Well, 7 months on I thought I would do another post to share its progress.

This weekend brings Bridlington it's famous scooter rally! A quiet seaside down with winter coming in,  quickly changes into a town full of scooter lovers with hundreds of scooters entering the town! As a surface designer I love all the different styles and colours! So will hopefully be getting some photographs of some!

The Priory has developed over the past few months with the launch of their website!
The store has progressed with great new brands being added each month! The men of Bridlington definitely will be in for some treats this Christmas!

This weekend the staff has worked hard to change the store for one of Bridlington's iconic events by even managing to get hold of some scooter's themselves! And for this weekend only offering 10% off in store!

Now the website is launched. The Priory Menswear website offers its fantastic stock to people who aren't able to travel to the store online 24/7!

I think this is a fantastic shop for Bridlington and I love to support the local!

Check it out! The Priory Menswear!
